For a second year in a row, the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce has qualified to be considered for the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) Chamber of the Year Award. In 2008 the Oak Ridge Chamber was named one of the top three Chambers within its peer group. The winner will be announced later this summer at the ACCE conference in Raleigh, NC. To qualify, each chamber must meet or beat the national average of median for their total income level in four of the seven points. The criteria points are determined by calculating measures for the Chamber Operation Survey.
The Chamber of the Year award recognizes the role chambers play in leading businesses and communities. The Oak Ridge Chamber will compete against chambers from across the country which have qualified for the award. Finalists will be determined through a multi-stage process involving an operational survey and examination of supporting documentation and exhibits. This will narrow the field down to three. Those three finalists will be interviewed by representatives from the ACCE to determine the winner.
According to Tom Hilton of Y-12 Federal Credit Union and Chairman of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors, "Though the process is in its very early stages, qualifying for this award is a significant honor for this organization. The fact that the Oak Ridge Chamber is being considered for this recognition for a second year in a row speaks to the outstanding work this Chamber does.
"Being considered for this award allows us the opportunity to be judged by a team of peer organizations which help us evaluate our efforts to enhance the economy and serve as an advocate for business."
Parker Hardy, President and CEO of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce said, "Qualifying for this award wouldn't be possible without the tireless work of our volunteers as well as our professional staff.
The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce is Four-Star Accredited Chamber of Commerce and a 2008 ACCE Chamber of the Year finalist.
