The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Kenneth Herring has joined the staff as the Chamber's Relocation Specialist. Herring will serve as a liaison for the community with human resources professionals and prospective new residents. The position is the result of a partnership between the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce and the City of Oak Ridge to help promote residency within the city.
Herring, who grew up in Oak Ridge, comes to the Chamber from the Scarboro Learning Center in Oak Ridge where he served as the Executive Director. Herring has also worked as an account executive with C&C Specialty Advertising, a Security Specialist with the U.S. Department of Energy, the Director of Donations at Goodwill Industries Chattanooga Region, and the Director of Community Relations for Originality Public Relations. Herring holds a B.A. degree in communications and a minor in Spanish from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
"We are very pleased to have Kenneth on board as a part of the Chamber team," said Parker Hardy, President and CEO of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce. "His enthusiasm for the job as well as his experience will be an asset to the Chamber and to the Oak Ridge community as a whole."
According to Herring, "Our city is one of the most intriguing, innovative and historically interesting cities in our country. I'm thrilled to be able to help Oak Ridge's employers share this unique community with their new hires. It will definitely be a team effort and I will be calling upon many people in our community to help me put our best foot forward and show prospective new residents that what really makes this community special is its people."
The Relocation Specialist position grew out of the recommendation of the Live Where You Work task force at the Chamber. Members of that task force met with the CEOs and Human Resources professionals at several of the largest employers in Oak Ridge. Many of these leaders felt that having a designated person to turn to for their relocation needs was key to promoting living in the community.
The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce is Four-Star Accredited Chamber of Commerce and a 2008 ACCE Chamber of the Year finalist.
