Entrants Being Sought; Parade Marshals Needed
November 30, 2009 - The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. The theme for this year's parade is "Christmas Around the World." Entrants are encouraged to use lights and an international flair in their decorating. Entry forms are available at the Chamber and on the Chamber's website: www.oakridgechamber.org. Entry forms are due by Monday, December 7.
According to Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce President Parker Hardy, "The parade is shaping up to be a fun event, as always. We are pleased to sponsor this parade every year as the Chamber's gift to the community."
The parade will include something for everyone. There will be marching bands, classic cars, horses and, the most anticipated participant of all: Santa himself will make an appearance at the end of the parade.
Greta Ownby, Executive Vice President of the Chamber said, "We are very excited to have the parade at night again and look forward to seeing the excited children and creative entries. To organize the parade we need volunteers to serve as parade marshals. Members of the community are invited to volunteer to be a parade marshal. It is a four to five hour commitment of time the afternoon and evening of the parade."
The Chamber will need many volunteer parade marshals to help at the event.
"Parade marshals serve a very important function at the parade. They help line up the entries, answer questions for participants, and, perhaps, most importantly, help keep an eye on the children who are participating. We would like parade marshals to walk the parade route with entries as well," explained Ownby.
