The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce, Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau, Oak Ridge Revitalization Effort and the Tennessee Small Business Development Center are pleased to offer a seminar on how to use social media in your business. The seminar will be offered twice on September 16: once from 8:00-10:00 a.m. and again from 3:00-5:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce's Joyce Conference Room and the cost is $10 per person.
Rob Karpick, Senior Business Specialist with the Tennessee Small Business Development Center and the presenter for this first set of seminars said, "The greatest marketing opportunity in history is occurring now and small businesses can compete with and even beat national chain retailers and service providers. This seminar will scratch the surface of how the small business community can utilize social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more to drive more traffic to your business and increase revenue in a very cost effective and socially responsible manner."
According to Parker Hardy, President and CEO of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce, "Using social media for business is a hot topic right now. The Chamber, CVB, Oak Ridge Revitalization Effort and the TSBDC are planning to offer more seminars on this important aspect of promoting business in the future. Participants at this first seminar will help us determine what areas of social media they want covered in greater detail for future sessions."
"Social media has become a vital and integral part of the workday," said Katy Brown, president of the Oak Ridge Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Visitors want to find information quickly and easily. Using various social media helps keep us ahead of the curve."
"Social media is basically communication online. That doesn't sound too complicated, huh? But for many beginners it can be. There are many different forms of social media... many different ways of communicating online. Through these workshops we hope to assist independent business owners to better position themselves alongside the ‘big boys'," said Kate Groover, Director of the Oak Ridge Revitalization Effort.
