The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for the 2012 class of Leadership Oak Ridge.
The program features applied leadership lessons in multiple sessions focused on a variety of issue-based topics. Leadership Oak Ridge participants actively participate in the planning of the sessions with input, advice and guidance from one another and from engaged community leaders.
Among the session topics are: Oak Ridge Economics 101; Education; Quality of Life/Social Services; Leadership Development; and Oak Ridge Orientation. In addition, there will be two overnight trips. The first trip will be to Nashville in April while the General Assembly is in session. The second trip is a two day/one night retreat in September. A graduation will be held for the participants in November.
Greta Ownby, Executive Vice President of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce noted, "Class members, as part of Leadership Oak Ridge, participate as leaders for one of the sessions. Each student volunteers to help coordinate a class and works to incorporate leadership examples and skills into the session. Graduates of previous classes tell us this experience gives them a sense of ownership in the program."
Leadership Oak Ridge is a ten month program, with classes meeting once per month. Parker Hardy, President of the Oak Ridge Chamber commented, "Leadership Oak Ridge is truly a training ground for leaders. It allows individuals to develop leadership skills and channels those skills into making a difference in Oak Ridge. We are proud of the previous classes and their accomplishments and look forward to a new class of leaders in 2012."
Applications for the program, set to kickoff in February 2012, are available on the Leadership Oak Ridge website accessed through the Chamber's site by clicking here and at the Chamber office, 1400 Oak Ridge Turnpike.
